I’ve got to be more responsible about taking either my camera or my phone with me when I go out and do things, if I’m going to start blogging again. As it is, I only have a couple of photos of this weekend’s activities thus far to share with you!
Let’s start with knitting, shall we? I’ve been unable to knit since last September, due to a shoulder injury, but as things have improved greatly since March with the help of my fantastic physiotherapist Pierre-Luc, I have started to venture into a bit of knitting again (just a little at a time, and lots of stretching and breaks, I promise!). As it happens, Rob informed me that some friends of ours are expecting their first baby at the end of June, and baby knits are quick and easy. Especially if you use a Tin Can Knits pattern! Their Simple Collection is a great way to learn new techniques, and all the patterns are just gorgeous. I’m doing the Harvest cardigan in the 6-12 month size, using Lorna’s Laces Haymarket worsted BFL in the Lookbook colourway. And as usually happens with things in my stash, this is a discontinued yarn.
Saturday morning dawned bright and early around 5am, and found me waiting out in front of my friend Mike’s apartment building. He’s moving to Toronto next week, and there were still a few boxes that needed to be transported to his new place. We loaded up my tiny car, and headed off into the… well, AWAY from the sunrise. But it didn’t last for long! We hit rain about two hours into the trip, and it continued to rain on and off for the rest of the day. We made it to Toronto around lunchtime, unloaded all his cargo, and then his boyfriend Daniel took us out to an amazing dim sum restaurant called Crown Princess Fine Dining. My friends, if you happen to find yourself in Toronto and love good Dim Sum, do yourselves a favor and visit this place! It was SO good, and although we ordered a ridiculous amount of food, there were no leftovers for Daniel to bring home.
We headed home around 4pm, deviating from my normal route by leaving the 401 in Brighton, ON and taking highway 62 up to highway 7. But not before we visited The Big Apple in Colborne. We wandered around the pie shop and the candy store. There’s a picture of Mike in the mosaic below with the giant bear that greets you when you walk into the candy store. This means I discovered some new parts of my end of Ontario, and we stopped to stretch our legs and take a picture at Moira Lake, just outside of Madoc. What a gorgeous area!!! I’m partially telling you about this because I want to remember how I found it so I can go back later this summer, especially since it seems there are Walleye spawning grounds in the area!
Today was spent wandering around Mike’s estate sale, and bringing home far more stuff than I intended to, including four antique chairs that are going to serve as kitchen chairs for the kids and I. Then we popped into Starbucks for a little pick-me-up (a rare occurrence for me) and came home. I wasn’t intending to bring anything home, because I’m starting to feel overwhelmed at the sheer amount of STUFF we have. The more time I spend surrounded by stuff, the less of it I want to have (and the nicer I want my stuff to be). Things are slowly leaving the house in bits and pieces, but I think in the next few weeks, a gargantuan purging effort is going to have to be made. But I will admit that the things I did bring home from Mike’s are NICE things, and they will last. I’ll talk some more about all that in my next post.
For now, I’m going to go enjoy some Midsomer Murders, and a bit of knitting. For my Canadian friends, have a great Victoria Day weekend, and please celebrate responsibly! I’m looking forward to some fireworks tomorrow night.
