Today’s tea is Super Fruit Herbal Tea by Tea Pigs. It’s a vibrant blend of unusual berries (including elderberries, currants, bilberries and cranberries) that is as good hot as it is cold.

And that brings us to the Bijou Basin KAL!!! We’ll be casting on next Saturday, so be ready! Any Bijou Basin or ModeKnit Yarns fiber will qualify, as will any patterns featured on Bijou Basin Ranch’s site, or any Annie Modesitt pattern. I will be casting on the Flirt Shawlette by Heidi Sharp Designs.

The prize pack will include a book of Annie Modesitt’s patterns, as well as some yarn from Bijou Basin Ranch, and a few other goodies 🙂 The KAL runs from Saturday, October 20 to midnight on December 31. A participation prize of any pattern featured on BBR’s site will also be awarded.

On Screen

I managed to get another three episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in, so one more episode left before I get to watch Thor: The Dark World (I was completely wrong in the episode as to what the next film was!)

In the podcasting world, several people have new episodes out, but none more exciting to me than Little Big Knits with my lovely friend selmaknits, and Hawthorn Cottage Craft podcast with the wonderful ARunnerBean!! (can’t wait to see you, Kate!!!)

That’s all for now, folks. Prep for Rhinebeck is underway, and next week’s episode won’t be posted until I’m back home on Monday evening. Have a great week, and if you’re at Rhinebeck, please stop me to say hi! I have buttons!!

Birthday shout-outs!

Please wish all our September babies a very happy birthday! Happy birthday to KellySpinsCraftyjenn9277doxiedogsknitpick56CreativedreamssandvansnooksLauraWestportMaraathomeknitt-a-holicBitchandstitch1CraftyMomma73Hannahbug1423wifeofrexgmb3tcdLameyDoofusOryxRunJKnits51twistySmofficoraleegeeElleYarnloopstitchalong, and brighidskiss!! I hope you had a great birthday month smile

On screen

I finished all of Queer Eye, and I’m so sad it’s over! There were a lot of tears. I highly recommend you watch it! I also plowed through Iron Man 2, Thor, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3 (I had completely forgotten what that one was about.) I’m about to start Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this week 🙂 I also started a new Netflix original series called The Good Cop. Tony Danza plays a corrupt ex-cop who has recently been released from prison. He lives with his son, Josh Groban, who is a straight-laced, by-the-book detective. It’s a comedy, but also a pretty good cop show, and it’s hilarious! Give it a watch if you have Netflix.

Have a great week, everybody!

The Wayward Skein: Episode 15

Knitting content:

Celestial Socks test knit for Brandi Miller. Knit out of Fleece Artist Trail Sock, hand-dyed by krysknits, on 2.25mm (US 1) needles.

Peppermint Mocha Socks by C.C. Almon. Knit out of Tilting Planet Apollo Sock in the “Ocean in a Bucket” colourway on size 2.5mm (US 1.5) needles.

Sadly, no other knitting got done this week, especially as I wasted three days fixing the Peppermint Mocha socks!

On the screen:

I tried an episode of Brooklyn 99 and found it wasn’t a style of comedy I enjoy. Then I watched a few episodes of Queer Eye and very much enjoyed that! I’ve also watched a few more moview in the Marvel lineup (Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, which both came out in 2008).

There hasn’t been much else going on this week. Sorry the podcast was so light on content this week!

Episode 14

Knitting Content:

FO: Winterlong by Bristol Ivy. Knit out of Filtes King Velour in colourway 1317 on size 5mm (US 8) needles.

WIPs:

Peppermint Mocha Socks by C.C. Almon. Knit out of Tilting Planet Apollo Sock in the “Ocean in a Bucket” colourway on size 2.5mm (US 1.5) needles.

Autumn Leaves by Nikki Van De Car. Knit out of Stylecraft Life DK in the “Mixtures Gorse” colourway on size 4mm (US 6) needles.

Celestial Socks test knit by Brandi Miller. Knit out of Fleece Artist Trail Sock hand-dyed by krysknits on size 2.25mm (US 1) needles.

On the screen

I’ve been watching a show on Netflix called “The Ranch”. It’s actually a current series, which started in 2016 (surprisingly, I would have thought it was pre-current administration). There’s a lot of problematic humor in it that I don’t appreciate, but there’s also a lot of absolutely hilarious stuff, and there’s Sam Elliott for additional eye candy.

I’ve been watching a few of MinaPhilipp’s shorter snippets this past week, and especially enjoyed the one about her new The New York Hat Collection, which was released this week. Also watched a new episode by Must Love Yarn.

Between the pages

I’ve picked up An Acceptable Time by Madeleine L’Engle again. It’s the final book in the Wrinkle in Time series, and I had misplaced it, and so had to start again. I’m very much enjoying it, and look forward to finishing it so I can finally watch the movie!!

Have a great week, everyone!

Podcast Episode 13

Tea: This week’s cuppa is Apple Custard from David’s Tea. It’s a smooth, mellow apple-vanilla flavored tea that is simply delicious! I’m so glad I decided to try it!

Finished watching Marvel’s Agent Carter, which I quite enjoyed. I then watched the first season of Anne with an E, and I’m rather upset about it! Rob and I also had time to see The Hitman’s Bodyguard last weekend, and it was SO FUNNY. Please see it if you haven’t already!

Podcasts watched

I spent some time with The Knit Girllls this week, as well as with Must Love YarnThe Uncreative Crafter Podcast Fans, and Fiberific!.

Tea: Valerian Nights by David’s Tea (YES, I’m a sucker for David’s Tea!). This is a sort of fruity, sort of sweet herbal tea. Valerian is used by people who have difficulty getting to sleep. This one has bits of caramel, apple, and coconut added to it, and it has a delicate flavor reminiscent of fairground caramel apples.

Birthday Shoutouts

Happiest of birthdays to all our August babies!!! KnittaGaldisascraftworkDancingLeaf06huntress1327Cherylcan (FROM PEI, sorry I forgot!), haizlertn1946soccerballetmomyarnjunkiemomAuntyNanaNzLinknitteraemummieshazkyAppaloosadragonladyMikariaredyarnknitsYellowZx5TyMoralcrazyknittinnana, and truffles06, I hope you all had (or are having) a fantastic birthday! ❤

Color Affection by Veera Välimäki. Knit out of Night Owl Fibers Basic Sock in the Rusted Hook, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Leather Boots colourways on size 4.5mm (US 7) needles.

Peppermint Mocha Socks by C.C. Almon. Knit out of Tilting Planet Apollo Sock in the “Ocean in a Bucket” colourway on size 2.5mm (US 1.5) needles.

Screen Time:

I have given up watching Sliders, since my two favorite actors had left the show, and the final season was never made, so the series ends on a cliffhanger. Instead, I’m rebooting the Marvel universe, according to this CNET article. I watched Captain America and the first two episodes of Marvel’s Agent Carter this week and look forward to seeing more in the next few days!

Podcasts:

The Knit Girllls have a new episode out, as do Ninja Chickens (hosted by ninjachickens and The dunkelgrün group (hosted by dunkelgrun.

Must Love Yarn, which features jrbirdkid and KellySpins, reached their hundredth episode in the last couple of weeks, which is a HUGE milestone! Congratulations ladies!!! If you’re ever in the Burlington area in Vermont, their shop is worth a stop, a restop, and maybe one last visit before you leave!

Have a great week, everybody!

The Wayward Skein: Episode 9

Knitting Content

Rob’s 2018 socks (based on Sock Recipe: A Good, Plain Sock by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee). Knit out of Bergère de France Lubéron in the Eau Vive colourway on size 2.5mm (US 1.5) needles.

Color Affection by Veera Välimäki. Knit out of Night Owl Fibers Basic Sock in the Rusted Hook, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Leather Boots colourways on size 4.5mm (US 7) needles.

Tea:

Today’s tea is a from a fantastic local producer called Take Charge Tea. I’m drinking their Chaga with Cocoa Nibs, and it’s such a deliciously subtle flavor, good hot or cold. It has a taste somewhat like maple, but not cloyingly sweet or overly chocolatey. I apologize, apparently the website address on the back of the tea package, which I mentioned on the podcast, is no longer correct. They’re now at maidenkanadah.com!

Recipe Review:

This week, I made Filipino Chicken Adobo from the Two Sleevers blog. It’s a deceptively simple recipe – this version is done in the Instant Pot, and then put under the broiler for a few minutes to crisp up the skin. Who would have thought that only five or six ingredients would make such a fantastic meal? Mods I made included replacing the soy sauce with coconut aminos, since that’s all I had in the kitchen, and substituting apple cider vinegar for the white vinegar.

Podcasts:

selmaknits put out a new episode of the Little Big Knits podcast this week, Serenova put out a new episode of the Serenova Crafts podcast, and my lovely friend Kate put out a new episode of the Hawthorn Cottage Craft podcast. Please go show them some love!

What’s Going On:

Thanks to RabbitRibbit and krysknits for hanging out with me this week!!! ❤

I’m looking forward to the Twist Fibre Festival next weekend, and starting to plan for my RHINEBECK!! activities 🙂 If you’re thinking of heading to Twist next weekend, NatalieServant still has room in some of her classes. She’s a great teacher, and you should check out what’s still available 🙂

Wedding planning has started in earnest, so let me know if I start bombarding you guys with too much wedding garbage!

And big, huge, MEGA thanks to Rob for the early birthday present. I think the new camera made a huge difference, don’t you?

The Wayward Skein: Episode 7

Tea:

Today’s cuppa is David’s Tea Super Ginger. It’s a green rooibos with organic ginger, three kinds of pepper, and a touch of stevia. It’s a little spicy, it’ll warm you thoroughly, and it’s great for digestion! It’s one of my favorite teas, and I keep a supply of it pretty much everywhere I go.

The Wayward Skein: Episode 6

Knitting Content:

Basic vanilla socks, based on Sock Recipe: A Good, Plain Sock by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. Knit out of NovaSock Prints in colourway #174 on size 2.5mm (US 1.5) needles.

Winterlong by Bristol Ivy. Knit out of Filtes King Velour in colourway 1317, on size 5mm (US 8) needles.

Mitered Square blanket (loosely based on Knitted Patchwork Recipe by Martine Ellis). This week’s square is knit in Three Irish Girls Adorn Sock in the Ainslie colourway, on size 2.75mm (US 2) needles.

Tea:

Today’s cuppa is David’s Tea Quince Charming. It’s a fruity black tea that has notes of caramel, vanilla, apples, and peach. You can’t taste the black tea at all, there’s no bitterness. It’s mellow and sweet, and my favourite tea! This is a seasonal tea, only available in the fall.

Around the house:

Made a batch of blueberry-peach jam on Saturday evening, and a batch of plain strawberry jam this evening. There are several more batches in the queue (it’s that time of year). I used Pomona’s Pectin this year for the first time, and I’m loving how it handles! Between that and my Instant Pot, jam-making has never been quicker, and I can do batches without any sugar this way! (I use minimal artificial sweeteners, but you probably wouldn’t need any if you were using super-sweet fruits… as most of my jams will contain rhubarb, some sweetener is required).

A safety note: The Instant Pot can be used to cook the jam, but not to can it. I still use a regular boiling water bath to process the jars when they’re filled.

On the screen:

Finished with Midsomer Murders (sob), but I downloaded the entire run of Sliders, and I’m enjoying a bit of 90s nostalgia! My daughter and I also went to see Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again last night, and it was AMAZING. I did cry a lot, if you’re going to see it, bring tissues!

Podcasts:

I forgot to mention, but this week has been devoted to catching up on The Uncreative Crafter Podcast. If you haven’t checked Jen out before, go on over! You won’t be sorry you did!

HUGE thanks to everyone who has subscribed and joined here on Ravelry!! I really appreciate it, and you’re all awesome! See you next week!
